Strength exercise

Squat (Shrimp)

How to do it

  1. Stand on one leg and reach back with the same-side hand to hold the opposite foot behind the body.
  2. Extend the free arm forward for balance and keep the standing leg's hip stacked over the ankle.
  3. Bend the standing knee and lower the back knee toward the floor, letting the torso tip forward slightly for balance.
  4. Descend until the back knee lightly touches the floor behind the standing foot, keeping the held foot lifted throughout.
  5. Drive through the standing foot to rise back up, feeling the quadriceps and glutes of the standing leg do the work.
  6. Exhale on the way up and complete all reps on one side before switching legs and hand grips.
