Cardio exercise

Sprinting

How to do it

  1. Begin from a standing start or light jog, then drive out into a full sprint on a flat running surface.
  2. Lean the torso slightly forward from the ankles and pump the arms in a straight front-to-back path.
  3. Drive the knees high and extend fully through the hip on each stride, loading the quadriceps and biceps femoris.
  4. Land on the mid-foot beneath the hips and push off through the calves for each stride.
  5. Breathe in a quick rhythmic pattern that matches stride cadence, exhaling sharply on the drive phase.
  6. Hold near maximal effort for the sprint interval, then ease off gradually rather than stopping abruptly, a common fault that causes jarring deceleration.
