Strength exercise
Split Squat
How to do it
- Stand in a staggered stance with one foot roughly two to three feet in front of the other, toes pointing forward.
- Brace the core and keep the torso upright with the chest lifted.
- Lower straight down by bending both knees until the back knee nears the floor and the front thigh works toward parallel.
- Keep the front knee tracking over the front foot rather than letting it cave inward.
- Drive through the front heel to press back up to the starting stance, working the quadriceps and glutes.
- Complete all reps on one leg before switching, keeping the front shin close to vertical at the bottom.
