Flexibility exercise

Spinal Twist

How to do it

  1. Sit on a mat with the legs crossed comfortably in front of you and the spine tall.
  2. Place one hand on the floor behind you for support and rest the opposite hand on the outside of the opposite knee.
  3. Inhale to lengthen the spine, then exhale as you rotate the torso toward the supporting hand, leading the twist from the core.
  4. Feel a stretch through the obliques and the muscles along the spine while keeping both sit bones grounded on the mat.
  5. Hold the rotation for 5 to 8 slow breaths, deepening the twist gently on each exhale.
  6. Unwind back to center and repeat the twist on the opposite side.
