Smith Machine Calf Raise

How to do it

  1. Position a calf block under the Smith machine bar and stand with the balls of both feet on it, heels hanging off the back edge.
  2. Unrack the bar across the upper traps and set the feet hip width apart with toes pointing forward.
  3. Lower the heels toward the floor until a clear stretch is felt through the calves.
  4. Drive through the balls of the feet to press the heels up as high as possible.
  5. Hold the top position briefly, squeezing the calves, then lower with control back to the stretch.
  6. Keep the knees soft but stationary and avoid using the hips to bounce the weight upward.
