Strength exercise
Sandbag Lunge
How to do it
- Hoist the sandbag onto one shoulder or hug it against the chest, feet together to start.
- Step forward into a lunge, lowering the back knee toward the floor as the front quadriceps absorb the load.
- Keep the torso upright and braced against the shifting weight of the sandbag as it settles.
- Drive through the front heel to return to standing, keeping the sandbag's position steady rather than letting it slide.
- Exhale as you press up and inhale on the way down, keeping a controlled tempo throughout.
- Common fault: avoid twisting the torso to compensate for the sandbag's off-center load.
