Strength exercise

Russian Twist

How to do it

  1. Sit on the floor with the knees bent and heels lightly touching the ground, leaning the torso back to about 45 degrees.
  2. Lift the chest and brace the core to keep the spine long rather than rounded.
  3. Clasp the hands together in front of the chest and rotate the torso to tap the floor beside one hip, engaging the obliques and core.
  4. Rotate through to the opposite side, keeping the hips square and mostly still.
  5. Exhale sharply with each rotation and inhale as the torso passes through center.
  6. Keep the movement coming from the torso rotation rather than swinging the arms to build momentum.
