Strength exercise

Rope Climb

How to do it

  1. Stand beneath a suspended climbing rope and reach up to grip it with both hands, one slightly above the other.
  2. Pull the knees up and clamp the rope between the feet or shins to create a temporary foot lock.
  3. Drive through the legs while pulling with the arms and shoulders to move the body upward along the rope.
  4. Reset the hand grip higher as soon as the hips clear the current hand position, repeating the pattern for each ascent.
  5. Brace the core throughout so the body stays close to the rope rather than swinging away from it.
  6. Control the descent hand over hand on the way down rather than sliding freely.
