Strength exercise

Pull-up (Neutral Grip)

How to do it

  1. Grip a neutral-grip handle attachment or parallel bars with palms facing each other, and start from a complete dead hang with arms fully extended and shoulders relaxed.
  2. Squeeze the handles with a full, firm grip rather than resting on the fingers, keeping tension through the forearms before the pull begins.
  3. Drive the elbows down along the sides of the body, pulling the chest toward the handles while the lats lead the movement.
  4. Finish the pull with the biceps and forearms as your chin clears the handles, holding a brief squeeze at the top.
  5. Exhale on the pull up, then lower back to a full dead hang over a slow three to four count, inhaling as you descend.
  6. Common fault: avoid loosening the grip early during the descent, since the slow lower is where the forearms work hardest.
