Strength exercise

Pull-up (Close Grip)

How to do it

  1. Grip the bar with hands just a few inches apart, palms facing away from you, and hang with arms fully extended.
  2. Brace the core and set the shoulders back before initiating the pull.
  3. Pull your chest toward the bar, driving the elbows down close to the torso and holding the tight grip throughout the rep.
  4. Feel the forearms working to maintain the narrow grip as the lats and biceps drive the pull to the top.
  5. Exhale as your chin clears the bar, then inhale as you lower back to a full hang with control.
  6. Keep the wrists straight rather than bent, which keeps the grip load on the forearms even through fatigue.
