Strength exercise
Plank (Side - High)
How to do it
- Lie on the side with the bottom hand planted on the floor directly under the shoulder, arm straight, and the legs stacked with feet together.
- Brace the core and press through the straight arm to lift the hips off the floor into a straight line from head to heels.
- Stack the top hip directly over the bottom hip, extending the free arm straight up toward the ceiling for balance.
- Keep the supporting wrist stacked under the shoulder throughout, avoiding any drift of the hand out to the side.
- Breathe steadily while holding the position, keeping the hips lifted and the torso free of rotation.
- Hold for the prescribed time then lower with control and switch sides; a dropping hip is the main fault, so keep pressing the floor away through the straight arm to hold the line.
