Strength exercise

Plank (Side - Forearm)

How to do it

  1. Lie on the side with the forearm on the floor directly under the shoulder and the legs stacked straight, feet together.
  2. Brace the core and lift the hips off the floor until the body forms a straight line from head to heels.
  3. Press the forearm and fist firmly into the floor, engaging the forearm flexors to help stabilize the base.
  4. Keep the top hip stacked directly over the bottom hip, resisting the tendency to rotate the torso forward or back.
  5. Breathe steadily while holding, keeping the supporting shoulder pulled down away from the ear rather than shrugged up.
  6. Hold for the prescribed time then lower with control and switch sides; letting the hips sag toward the floor is the most common fault to correct.
