Strength exercise
Plank (Shoulder Tap)
How to do it
- Set up in a high plank with the hands slightly wider than shoulder width and the feet spread a little wider than hip width for stability.
- Brace the core and keep the hips level and square before beginning to tap.
- Lift one hand and tap the opposite shoulder, keeping the supporting arm firm and the hips still.
- Return the hand to the floor and repeat with the other hand tapping its opposite shoulder.
- Alternate sides at a controlled tempo, resisting any rotation or rocking of the hips as the arm lifts.
- Continue for the prescribed time while breathing steadily; letting the hips sway side to side with each tap is the fault the wider foot stance is meant to help control.
