Strength exercise
Plank (High)
How to do it
- Set up on the hands and toes with the wrists stacked directly under the shoulders, arms straight.
- Spread the fingers wide and press the floor away, engaging the shoulders to keep the upper back flat rather than rounded.
- Brace the core and squeeze the glutes so the body forms a straight line from head to heels.
- Keep the head in a neutral position with the gaze slightly ahead of the hands, not tucked or craned up.
- Breathe in a steady rhythm while holding the brace, resisting any dip in the hips or rise in the tailbone.
- Hold for the prescribed time then lower the knees to finish; sagging through the lower back as fatigue sets in is the fault to guard against.
