Strength exercise

Military Press

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet together directly under the hips and grip the bar just outside shoulder width with palms facing forward.
  2. Brace the core and squeeze the glutes to lock the ribcage down over the pelvis before unracking the bar to the collarbone.
  3. Press the bar straight up past the face, driving through the shoulders and triceps until the arms lock out overhead.
  4. Exhale through the sticking point near the forehead and inhale as the bar returns to the collarbone.
  5. Lower the bar back to the collarbone under control, keeping the elbows slightly in front of the bar rather than flared out to the sides.
  6. Keep the feet planted together throughout each rep instead of leaning back or bending the knees to move the bar.
