Strength exercise
Military Press
How to do it
- Stand with feet together directly under the hips and grip the bar just outside shoulder width with palms facing forward.
- Brace the core and squeeze the glutes to lock the ribcage down over the pelvis before unracking the bar to the collarbone.
- Press the bar straight up past the face, driving through the shoulders and triceps until the arms lock out overhead.
- Exhale through the sticking point near the forehead and inhale as the bar returns to the collarbone.
- Lower the bar back to the collarbone under control, keeping the elbows slightly in front of the bar rather than flared out to the sides.
- Keep the feet planted together throughout each rep instead of leaning back or bending the knees to move the bar.
