Strength exercise

Arnold Press

How to do it

  1. Sit on a bench with back support, holding a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height with the palms facing the body.
  2. Brace the core and press the dumbbells up and slightly forward while rotating the palms to face away from the body.
  3. Continue pressing until the arms are fully extended overhead with the palms forward and the dumbbells nearly touching.
  4. Pause briefly at the top, keeping the shoulders pulled down away from the ears.
  5. Reverse the path on the way down, rotating the palms back to face the body as the elbows bend to shoulder height.
  6. Control the rotation through a 4 count descent so the shoulders, not momentum, drive the movement.
