Strength exercise

Medicine Ball Crunch

How to do it

  1. Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat, holding the medicine ball against your chest with both hands.
  2. Brace the core and press your lower back gently into the floor before starting the curl.
  3. Curl the shoulders and upper back off the floor, drawing the ribs toward the hips while keeping the ball close to the chest.
  4. Pause briefly at the top of the curl, feeling the contraction through the abdominal muscles, then lower back down with control.
  5. Exhale as you curl upward and inhale as you return the shoulders to the floor.
  6. Keep the chin off the chest with a small gap, since jamming the chin down is the common fault in this crunch.
