Strength exercise
Leg Press Calf Raise
How to do it
- Sit into the leg press machine and place the balls of your feet on the lower edge of the footplate, heels hanging off.
- Set your feet hip width apart with legs extended to roughly three quarters, not fully locked out.
- Brace your core and release the safety catches before starting the movement.
- Press through the balls of your feet to push the plate away, extending your ankles fully to load the calves while the quadriceps hold the leg position.
- Exhale as you press the plate away and inhale as you let your heels drop back for a full stretch.
- Avoid bending the knees to assist the press; keep the movement isolated to the ankle joint throughout.
