Strength exercise
Hip Abduction Machine (Standing)
How to do it
- Stand tall beside the machine and attach the ankle cuff to the leg farthest from the frame, holding the support bar for balance.
- Brace the core and keep the standing leg slightly bent, keeping the hips level and facing forward.
- Keeping the working leg straight, lift it outward away from your body against the machine's resistance.
- Drive the movement from the gluteus maximus, raising the leg until it is roughly hip height without leaning the torso.
- Pause briefly at the top, then lower the leg back down with control, resisting the pull back toward the frame.
- Exhale as the leg lifts out and inhale on the return, completing all reps before switching sides.
