Strength exercise
Cable Hip Abduction
How to do it
- Attach an ankle cuff to a low pulley and stand sideways to the machine, holding onto the frame for balance with the outside leg attached to the cable.
- Brace your core and stand tall on the supporting leg with a slight bend in the knee.
- Sweep the working leg out to the side away from the machine, leading with the heel to engage the gluteus maximus.
- Pause briefly at the top of the movement before lowering the leg back under control to the starting position.
- Exhale as the leg lifts out and inhale as it returns, keeping the torso upright throughout.
- Avoid leaning the torso away from the working leg to swing it higher; keep the hips level and still.
