Strength exercise

Hip Abduction Machine

How to do it

  1. Sit in the machine with your back flat against the pad and the outside of each thigh against the moving lever pads.
  2. Set the seat position so your knees align with the machine's pivot point before selecting a challenging load.
  3. Brace the core to keep the pelvis still and the low back pressed into the pad throughout the movement.
  4. Push the thighs outward against the pads, squeezing the gluteus maximus to drive the legs apart.
  5. Pause briefly at the widest point, then return the legs back together with control rather than letting the stack slam down.
  6. Exhale as the legs press outward and inhale as you return, keeping the movement smooth for every rep.
