Strength exercise
Hanging Leg Raise
How to do it
- Hang from a pull-up bar with an overhand grip, hands just outside shoulder width, and let the body hang straight.
- Brace the core and pull the shoulder blades down slightly to stop the body from swinging.
- Raise the legs up in front of the body by curling the pelvis under, driving the movement from the core rather than swinging the hips.
- Bring the legs up until they are at least parallel to the floor, or higher for a full range.
- Lower the legs back down slowly under control until they reach a full hang.
- Exhale as the legs rise and keep the ribcage pulled down instead of arching the lower back to gain height.
