Strength exercise

Dumbbell Standing Calf Raise

How to do it

  1. Stand on a raised platform or step with the balls of both feet supported and the heels hanging off the edge, holding a dumbbell in each hand at the sides.
  2. Hold onto a wall or rail lightly for balance while keeping the legs straight.
  3. Lower the heels down below the toes until a full stretch is felt through the calves.
  4. Press up onto the toes as high as possible, pausing briefly at the peak contraction.
  5. Lower back down under control through the full range for each rep.
  6. Exhale on the press and inhale on the descent, avoiding the common fault of shortening the range of motion as fatigue builds.
