Strength exercise
Dumbbell Single Leg Romanian Deadlift
How to do it
- Hold a dumbbell in one or both hands and stand on one leg with a soft, fixed bend in the standing knee.
- Keep the hips square and let the free leg extend straight back for balance as the movement begins.
- Brace the core and fix the standing knee bend before hinging forward.
- Hinge at the hip of the standing leg, lowering the dumbbell toward the floor while the free leg rises behind, working the lower back, glutes, and hamstrings (biceps femoris) of the standing leg until a stretch is felt.
- Inhale on the way down, exhale returning to standing, moving slowly to control balance.
- Avoid letting the hips rotate open toward the raised leg; keep them level throughout the hinge.
