Strength exercise

Band Romanian Deadlift

How to do it

  1. Stand on the middle of a resistance band with feet hip width apart, holding a handle in each hand in front of the thighs.
  2. Take a hip width stance and keep a soft, fixed bend in the knees that stays constant throughout the movement.
  3. Brace the abdomen and set the shoulder blades back before hinging.
  4. Push the hips straight back while the band lengthens along the legs, keeping the lower back flat as the hamstrings (biceps femoris) and glutes stretch until tension is felt behind the thighs.
  5. Inhale during the hinge back, exhale driving the hips forward to standing, moving at a slow, controlled tempo.
  6. Avoid letting the knees drive forward or the band pull the shoulders into a rounded position; keep the hinge originating at the hips.
