Strength exercise
Axle Deadlift
How to do it
- Load the axle bar with weight plates and set it on the floor over your mid-foot, standing with feet hip-width apart.
- Bend at the hips and knees to grip the thick axle bar just outside the legs, since the wider diameter requires a firmer wrap than a standard bar.
- Set the chest up and the lower back in a neutral, flat position before initiating the pull.
- Drive through the heels and extend the hips and knees together, keeping the bar close to the shins and thighs as it rises.
- Exhale as you stand fully upright, squeezing the glutes and hamstrings at the top of the lift.
- Inhale and reverse the pattern, pushing the hips back first and hinging down to lower the bar with control.
