Strength exercise

Dumbbell Seated Calf Raise

How to do it

  1. Sit on a bench with a dumbbell resting on top of each knee, feet flat with the balls of the feet on a raised block.
  2. Hold the dumbbells in place with the hands and let the heels drop below the toes to stretch the calves.
  3. Press the balls of the feet down into the block to raise the heels as high as possible.
  4. Pause briefly at the top of the raise with the calves fully contracted.
  5. Lower the heels back down slowly under control to the stretched position.
  6. Exhale while pressing up and inhale while lowering, avoiding the common fault of using short, incomplete reps that skip the bottom stretch.
