Strength exercise

Dumbbell Curtsy Lunge

How to do it

  1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand at your sides with your palms facing in, standing with feet hip-width apart.
  2. Brace your core and step one foot diagonally behind your standing leg, crossing it behind like a curtsy.
  3. Bend both knees to lower your hips straight down toward the floor, keeping the front knee over the front foot.
  4. Drive through the front heel to press back up to standing, letting the dumbbells hang steady at your sides.
  5. Exhale as you press up and inhale as you step back, completing all reps on one leg before switching sides.
  6. A common fault is leaning the torso forward, so keep your chest tall and the weight anchored over the front heel.
