Strength exercise

Dumbbell Calf Raise

How to do it

  1. Stand on flat ground with feet hip-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand down at the sides.
  2. Brace the core and keep the knees soft but straight throughout the set.
  3. Press up onto the toes as high as possible, driving through the balls of both feet.
  4. Squeeze at the top of the raise before reversing the movement.
  5. Lower the heels back down to the floor under control rather than dropping quickly.
  6. Exhale on the way up and inhale on the way down, avoiding the common fault of rushing the tempo and skipping the top squeeze.
