Dumbbell Box Squat

How to do it

  1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand at your sides or at your shoulders and set a box or bench behind you at a height just below parallel.
  2. Stand with feet shoulder width apart in front of the box and brace your core before starting the descent.
  3. Bend your knees and push your hips back to lower under control until you sit lightly on the box, keeping your shins close to vertical.
  4. Pause briefly on the box without releasing tension in your quadriceps and glutes.
  5. Drive through your heels to stand back up, exhaling as you extend your hips and knees away from the box.
  6. Avoid letting the dumbbells swing forward as you sit back, and keep them close to your body throughout.
