Flexibility exercise

Calf Stretch (Wall)

How to do it

  1. Stand facing a wall at arm's length and place both palms flat against it at shoulder height.
  2. Step one foot back into a long stride, keeping that back leg straight and the heel flat on the floor.
  3. Bend the front knee and lean the hips toward the wall until you feel a stretch through the calf of the straight back leg.
  4. Breathe slowly, exhaling as you press a little further into the lean.
  5. Hold for 20 to 30 seconds, then switch which leg is back.
  6. Keep the back foot flat and pointed forward rather than letting the heel lift, which is the most common fault.
