Strength exercise

Calf Raise (Single Leg)

How to do it

  1. Stand on one foot with the ball of that foot on a raised surface and the heel hanging off the edge, holding a wall or rail for balance.
  2. Keep the non-working leg bent and lifted slightly behind the body throughout the set.
  3. Lower the heel down below the toe level to feel a full stretch through the calf.
  4. Press up onto the toe as high as possible, keeping the ankle tracking straight rather than rolling in or out.
  5. Pause briefly at the top before lowering back down under control.
  6. Exhale on the press and inhale on the descent, avoiding the common fault of leaning heavily on the support to take over the work.
