Strength exercise
Cable Upright Row
How to do it
- Attach a straight bar to a low cable pulley and stand facing the machine with your feet about hip width apart, gripping the bar with a narrow overhand grip.
- Let your arms hang straight so the bar rests against the front of your thighs with tension already on the cable.
- Brace your core and stand tall, then pull the bar straight up your torso by leading with your elbows, driving the lift through your side deltoids and trapezius.
- Raise the bar to about chest height and squeeze the side delts and traps at the top while the biceps assist the bend at your elbows, holding the cable tension.
- Exhale as you pull, pause briefly, then lower the bar back down under control without letting the weight stack slam.
- Keep the bar close to your body through the whole path, avoiding leaning back to help the bar travel higher.
