Strength exercise

Cable Low-to-High Wood Chop

How to do it

  1. Set the pulley to its lowest position and stand sideways to the machine with feet wider than hip-width, gripping the handle with both hands near the low side.
  2. Brace your core and bend the knees slightly as you reach the handle down toward the outside hip.
  3. Drive the handle up and across your body in a diagonal path, extending through the legs and rotating the torso as the gluteus maximus and quadriceps power the lift.
  4. Finish with your hands up and outside the opposite shoulder, calves extending as you rise onto the balls of the feet.
  5. Exhale as you drive upward and inhale as you lower back to the start under control.
  6. Avoid using only the arms to raise the handle; let the leg drive and hip rotation lead the movement.
