Strength exercise
Cable Ab Twist
How to do it
- Stand sideways to a cable machine set at chest height and grasp the handle with both hands, arms extended in front of the chest.
- Set the feet shoulder-width apart with a slight bend in the knees and step far enough away to keep tension on the cable throughout.
- Rotate the torso away from the machine, drawing the handle across the body and feeling the twist load through the obliques and core.
- Exhale as you rotate away from the machine and inhale as you return the handle back to the starting position under control.
- Continue for 10 to 12 controlled repetitions, keeping the pace even.
- Rotate through the torso rather than yanking with the arms, which is the most common fault on this movement.
