Strength exercise

Bottom Half Preacher Curls

How to do it

  1. Sit at the preacher bench and lay the backs of your upper arms flat against the pad, gripping a barbell with a shoulder-width underhand grip and starting with your arms almost fully straight.
  2. Curl the bar up through only the bottom third of the range, stopping once your forearms pass roughly 45 degrees from straight.
  3. Keep your chest against the pad and your upper arms pinned in place so the movement stays isolated to the elbows.
  4. Squeeze the biceps hard at the top of this partial range before reversing direction, keeping the top lockout portion out of the set entirely.
  5. Lower back to a near-straight arm position slowly, inhaling on the way down and exhaling as you curl up.
  6. Do not let your shoulders roll forward or your upper arms lift off the pad to steal extra range near the top.
