Strength exercise

Bicycle Crunches

How to do it

  1. Lie on your back with hands lightly cupped behind the head and knees bent to a tabletop position.
  2. Lift the shoulder blades off the floor and rotate to bring one elbow toward the opposite knee while the other leg extends.
  3. Alternate sides in a smooth pedaling motion, driving the movement from the core rather than pulling on the neck.
  4. Keep the lower back pressed toward the floor throughout each rotation.
  5. Exhale as you rotate toward each knee and inhale as you switch sides.
  6. Slow the tempo if the elbows start yanking the head forward, a common fault that shifts load off the core.
