Strength exercise
Band Lateral Walk
How to do it
- Loop a resistance band around both legs just above the ankles and stand with your feet about hip width apart.
- Bend your knees and hips into a partial squat, setting an athletic stance with your chest up and your weight in your midfoot.
- Brace your core, then drive one foot out to the side by pushing through your glute and hip so the band stretches under tension.
- Bring the trailing foot in only part way to keep constant tension on the band, squeezing the glute of the working leg as you plant each step.
- Exhale as you step out and inhale as you recover, keeping a slow controlled tempo across the set number of steps in each direction.
- Keep your torso upright and your knees pushed out over your toes, avoiding letting the knees cave inward as you step.
