Flexibility exercise

World's Greatest Stretch

How to do it

  1. Start in a staggered stance with one foot stepped forward into a deep lunge and the back leg extended straight.
  2. Place both hands on the floor inside the front foot, keeping the front shin close to vertical.
  3. Rotate the torso and reach the inside hand up toward the ceiling, opening the chest toward the front knee.
  4. Feel a stretch through the hip flexor of the back leg, the inner thigh of the front leg, and the upper back as the torso rotates, breathing evenly through the movement.
  5. Hold the rotated reach briefly, then return the hand to the floor and repeat the reach for 20 to 30 seconds total on that side.
  6. Step back to a neutral stance and repeat the full sequence on the opposite leg.
