Cardio exercise
Treadmill
How to do it
- Straddle the belt with feet on the side rails, then start the belt at an easy walking pace before stepping onto it.
- Stand tall with a slight forward lean from the ankles, keeping the hands light on the rails for balance only.
- Build the speed gradually to the target pace, driving off the balls of the feet to load the calves and quadriceps with each stride.
- Keep the cadence quick and light rather than overstriding with the heel far out in front of the body.
- Hold the target effort level steady, breathing in a controlled rhythm through the working portion.
- Lower the speed gradually over the final few minutes to cool down instead of stopping the belt abruptly.
