Strength exercise
Squat (Jump)
How to do it
- Stand with feet shoulder width apart and arms relaxed at the sides, ready to begin the jump squat.
- Bend the knees and hips together to lower into a quarter to half squat, swinging the arms back for momentum.
- Drive explosively through the whole foot, extending the hips, knees, and ankles to launch off the ground.
- Swing the arms upward as the feet leave the floor, feeling the quadriceps, glutes, and calves power the jump.
- Land softly on the mid-foot with the knees slightly bent, absorbing the impact before sinking straight back into the next squat.
- Exhale on the way up and keep landings quiet and controlled rather than letting the knees collapse inward.
