Strength exercise

Skater Jump

How to do it

  1. Start in a slight squat on one leg with the opposite foot lifted off the ground behind you.
  2. Load the standing leg by pushing the hips back and bending the knee to about a quarter squat.
  3. Push off laterally and land on the opposite foot, letting the trailing leg sweep behind for balance like a skater's stride.
  4. Absorb the landing by bending the knee and hip, driving through the quadriceps, glutes, and calves.
  5. Pause briefly to control the landing before pushing off in the other direction for the next rep.
  6. Keep the chest up and exhale on each push, avoiding a stiff-legged landing.
