Strength exercise
Shoulder Press Machine (Standing)
How to do it
- Stand facing the shoulder press machine and set the handles level with the top of the shoulders.
- Grip the handles with hands slightly wider than shoulder width and plant the feet firmly under the hips.
- Brace the core and press the handles straight overhead until the arms are extended.
- Lower the handles back to the start position under control, feeling the shoulders drive the movement.
- Exhale as you press up and inhale as you return to the start.
- Keep the torso upright throughout the standing press; a common fault is leaning back to use momentum instead of the shoulders.
