Strength exercise

Dumbbell Side Bend (Standing)

How to do it

  1. Stand tall with feet hip-width apart holding a single dumbbell in one hand at your side, keeping the opposite hand fixed behind your head.
  2. Brace the core and set a slow, controlled tempo before beginning the bend.
  3. Lower the dumbbell down the side of your leg with a steady count, pausing briefly at the deepest comfortable point of the bend.
  4. Drive back up to the tall starting position at the same controlled pace, avoiding any quick or bouncing motion.
  5. Exhale as you rise to standing and inhale as you lower into the bend.
  6. A common fault is rushing the tempo to use momentum, keep each repetition at the same deliberate pace throughout the set.
