Strength exercise

Dumbbell High Pull

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart holding a dumbbell in each hand in front of your thighs, palms facing your body.
  2. Brace the core and hinge slightly at the hips before driving the movement upward.
  3. Pull the dumbbells up along the body by leading with the elbows, raising them above shoulder height while keeping the weights close.
  4. Let the trapezius and shoulders drive the top of the pull, keeping the wrists relaxed and the elbows higher than the hands.
  5. Exhale as you pull upward and inhale as you lower the dumbbells back to the thighs.
  6. A common fault is swinging the torso to generate momentum, keep the pull driven by the shoulders and upper back.
