Strength exercise
Barbell Lunges
How to do it
- Stand tall with the bar resting across the upper back and feet hip width apart.
- Brace the core and step forward with one leg, lowering the hips until both knees reach about 90 degrees.
- Keep the front shin close to vertical and the torso upright throughout the descent, working the quadriceps and hamstrings.
- Push through the front heel to drive back to the starting position, bringing the feet back together.
- Inhale during the step and descent, exhaling while driving back up.
- Alternate legs with control and avoid letting the front knee drift past the toes or cave inward.
