Strength exercise

Barbell Front Rack Lunge

How to do it

  1. Rack a loaded barbell across the front of your shoulders, elbows lifted high to cradle the bar with your fingertips.
  2. Stand with feet hip-width apart and brace your core to keep your torso upright.
  3. Step forward into a lunge, bending both knees to roughly 90 degrees while keeping the front knee tracking over the front foot.
  4. Drive through the front heel to press back up to standing, keeping the bar steady across your shoulders.
  5. Exhale as you drive up and inhale as you lower into each rep, completing all reps on one side before switching legs.
  6. A common fault is letting the elbows drop, which tips the bar forward, so keep the elbows lifted and the chest tall throughout.
