Strength exercise
Backpedal
How to do it
- Start in an athletic stance with knees bent, hips low, and weight on the balls of the feet.
- Push backward off the lead foot, driving the hips back to begin moving in reverse.
- Take short, quick steps backward, staying low and keeping the chest over the hips.
- Drive through the quadriceps to extend each stride back and stay on the balls of the feet to keep the calves engaged.
- Keep the eyes forward and the core braced so the torso does not lean too far forward or back.
- Cover the set distance backward at a controlled, quick cadence before resetting to the start.
