Strength exercise

Straddle Hold

How to do it

  1. Sit on the floor with the legs spread wide apart and the hands placed flat on the floor beside the hips.
  2. Press down through the palms and straighten the arms to lift the hips and legs clear of the floor.
  3. Keep the legs fully extended and spread wide, resisting the pull of the adductors so the legs do not drift back together.
  4. Brace the core to keep the torso upright and the hips lifted for the entire hold.
  5. Breathe in a steady, controlled rhythm rather than holding the breath during the hold.
  6. Hold for the prescribed duration, typically 10 to 20 seconds, then lower the hips back to the floor with control.
