Strength exercise

Step-up (Lateral)

How to do it

  1. Stand sideways beside a sturdy elevated surface with one foot placed flat on top and the other on the floor.
  2. Brace the core and drive through the top foot to lift the body upward and sideways onto the platform.
  3. Straighten the top leg fully at the peak while keeping the hips level, avoiding pushing off the bottom foot.
  4. Lower back down under control, tapping the trailing foot lightly to the floor before the next rep.
  5. Exhale on the upward drive through the quadriceps and inhale during the controlled descent.
  6. Complete all reps on one side before switching, keeping the knee tracking over the foot rather than caving inward.
